It is so important that citizens have every opportunity to understand, assess and criticize the actions of the individuals they elect to serve them. I hope the information in this report will help you do just that. There are, frankly, challenges in serving as the Official Opposition to the current government in Quebec. This government has been rather tone-deaf on issues that matter to me - and I am sure to you - like education, inclusion, health care and jobs. It is our job to shed light on the problems and offer constructive alternatives. And, it is my job to be present and responsive to your local concerns. Let's stay in touch to make sure that happens. Speaking out on education, cannabis and the environment My colleagues and i offered a determined fight against a very bad Bill on electricity rates that will ultimately cost cornumers, compromise industry investment and stifle public access.R ended with the government dropping the hammer on closure just before midnight in the National Assembly on Saturday. December 7th. The Bill was evidently written on the back of a napkin, it will give Hydro -Quebec virtually free reign on setting tariffs starting in 2021, and will severely curtail the public watch-dog role of the Regie de rénergie in protecting consumers. I delivered the final opposition speech on the Assembly floor on that last evening. The government wasn't listening, and I fear that ordinary consumers will pay the price. rve made numerous National Assembly Interventions over the past months in defence of democracy in education, responsible regulation of cannabis consumption and protection against toxic pesticides. The government's move to raise the legal use of cannabis is ultimately damaging to public health. On pesticides, my colleagues and I are calling for meaningful regulation and arms-length protection from corporate interference against better environmental management. We will also be vigilant over the coming months in calling upon the gouvernment to respond responsibly to the growing labor shortage, an impending global economic downturn and the ever-increasing urgency to address climate change. In D'Arcy-McGee, we receive up to 400 requests a year. Thus, there are always difficult choices to be made. In recent months, we have supported such diverse and worthy causes as the Otis Grant Foundation, Multi-Caf in Cote-des-Neiges, Project Genesis, the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, Filipino Heritage Month and the city of Cote Saint-Luc. I am building important working relationships with leaders ike Grand Chiefs Ghislain Picard, Dr. Abel Bosum, Serge Simon and others-with a view to emuring that we push the government to truly engage in concrete improvements to services and access for First Nations and Inuit communities across the province. The Premier of Quebec profoundly alienated Indigenous Leaders by his absence from a second summit held in late January. The Minister Responsible, Sylvie D'Amour, has given no concrete evidence of a readiness or ability to have HISTORIC OUEBEC NGLO her government move forward on key Indigenous concerns. In Question Period and in any other forums available, I wil continue to call for serious mandates, budgets and collaboration in order to produce real change on education, health, access to justice and other services.
