At 20 years old, his life changed forever on June 24, 1982 Hit by a mortar shell while evacuating troops surrounded by enemy forces, he suffered serious facial burns and his right hand was instantly severed. His arm was later amputated. Hanoch no longer swims competitively but continues his rehabilitation with daily workouts. "Beit Halochem is my natural habitat.
